Computer Lib/Dream Machines
I have a 1974 first edition and it's basically my prize possession -- Ted Nelson, the guy who figured out that computers could be used for creative ends, and that we all have to understand software as a medium and a force. The book is a paste-up of hand-drawn diagrams and typewriter text. And prescient: one quote, "Whatever it may do in the real world, to the computer program it's just another device." When I think of how Uber's software sees its drivers, or how Facebook sees us, I remember that
